He now lives in New York City working in finance. My daughter Tristen is going to be a senior at Miamisburg High School this year.

Q. Current position at Miamisburg City School District:

A. I just finished my 20th year of teaching for Miamisburg City Schools. I currently teach 5th grade ELA at Kinder Elementary part time.

Q. Tell us about your work with Hope4Miamisburg:

A. I am the Hope4Miamisburg (H4M) director, which is a part of the Miami Valley Leadership Foundation. The goal of H4M is to work with all the domains in the city to meet the greatest needs in the community. One specific way we serve on an ongoing basis is through providing mentors for many of our students. Loving this city well is our greatest goal/ mission. Helen Keller said it well, “Alone we can do so little.

Together we can do so much.”

Hope4Miamisburg believes we are much better when we work together.

Q. How did Hope4Miamisburg partner with the Miamisburg City School District during COVID-19?

A. During COVID-19 shutdowns, we worked hard to provide food for the students in our city. Miamisburg Schools and Hope4Miamisburg partnered to create food distribution sites. We were able to pass out thousands of meals each week. When the schools opened back up, H4M collected donations such as water, hand sanitizer, computers, masks, gloves and towels to help with the reopening of the buildings.

We also partnered to create safe centers for students to learn when we shut down again for a few weeks. This was a beautiful picture of collaboration between the churches, nonprofits, the school district and the community at large.

Q. What do you enjoy the most about your work at Miamisburg Schools and Hope4Miamisburg?

A. It is truly a blessing to work for Miamisburg City Schools and MVLF/H4M. I love working with people of all ages and backgrounds and I get to do just that through these positions.

Connecting with students and their families is my favorite part of teaching. Seeing the people of our city work together to meet the needs in our community through H4M is powerful.

Q. What are your interests when you are not working ?

A. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. If I can spend time with them by some water that’s even better! I love to travel and experience the simple things of life with others. Serving alongside others is also one of my favorite things to do.
